About the library

History

In the autumn of 1995, the library was started at the Malmö Art Academy. The foundation for the library’s book collection consisted of a donation from the foundation of Einar Hansen.

Emphasis: Contemporary art and theory

Since the donation was mainly focused on pre 20th century art, during the last few years Malmö Art Academy has strived to supplement the library’s collections regarding 20th century art and art theory, mainly regarding contemporary art, in order to be able to meet the students’ and teachers’ demands and expectations on a library belonging to a contemporary international Art Academy.

The collections

The library’s collections consist of approximately 7000 volumes of monographs, exhibitions catalogues, art history, art theory and adjoining subjects like philosophy, psychology and sociology.
