Marcus Matt - Lavinia Jannesson
MFA Graduation Exhibition
I set out to more southern latitudes, hoping to find my destination, the
Forest of Fontainebleau, with its trees bare and its ground full and
generous enough to let me sweep it.
The material conditions—the nature which served as subject for the
painters of the forest, Jean-François Millet, Théodore Rousseau, Gustave
Courbet, Camille Corot and Narcisse Virgilio Díaz is now conditioning new
works in a most physical sense. Raw pigments extracted from vegetation
gathered in the Forest of Fontainebleau produce random patterns,
imprints and colourations on lengths of linen.
From yellows to brownish greens and reds. From purples to bluish greys
and blacks. From violet to vermilion.
I begin the story with Napoleon.

Marcus Matt - THE LONG RIDE
MFA graduation exhibition, Malmö Art Academy
The long ride out.
There is a house on this island
where I will stay a while.
The nights are so full here
you barely even notice it.
In this darkness one could truly
perceive the expanse before ones eyes.
Postcards are being sent and received,
written in languages still unfamiliar to me.
I hang my paintings here.
Could this be the place?
