Samaneh Reyhani - Executing Desire
Executing desire is the playful yet stern title of Samaneh Reyhani’s exhibition. Like the title, the exhibition is double edged. It is enticing, seductive and stunningly beautiful. Samaneh has a way of enthralling you with her visual work and then delivering a crystal clear and provocative message that will shock you back into reality.
She is a proud bearer of her Persian heritage, nourished by the ancient poets and philosophers and later developing more exotic tastes for absurdist literature and surrealist influences. Academically trained in traditional techniques, she manages to skillfully convey her feminist and humanitarian ideals in contemporary sculpture.
Selma Sjöstedt - Both Sides (Now)
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
- Joni Mitchell
Nerves are running between the immaterial and the matter. I am showing a series of paintings which act like oblong bodies on the wall. They are made to stand alone, but together they create worlds. The process of finding and forcing shapes is driven by contrasts, in material and mind. The smell of hide glue evokes museums, while the spray paint gives off the scent of industry. The two combine, creating a mental space to figure out.
