 w of my studio faces a parking lot\, which borders a playground. In this l
 ot\, there is a container used both by us students of the school of art an
 d by our surrounding neighbors to dispose of larger materials. I watch as 
 my neighbors often choose the exciting debris and empty space of the lot t
 o play with instead of the specially designed structures meters away.&nbsp
 \;On Monday a group of them found discarded concrete blocks and granite st
 ones and moved the material to a square shaped patch of asphalt in the mid
 dle of the lot. They arranged and decorated them with flowers. In the week
  since then\, the arrangement in the asphalt boundary transformed as other
 s encountered it. A woman carried some blocks home. Teenagers built stairs
 . A baby propped themselves up with the help of a concrete stack. I took p
 hotos every day of the resulting constructions.There was a certain freedom
  exercised in the play of my neighbors. Making a place in between existing
  structures\, they acted within the margins. A proposal: freedom can come 
 from acting as if you were already free.&nbsp\;Maya Krtić was born in Ala
 bama in 1994 to Croatian-American parents. She completed her Bachelor of A
 rchitecture degree at The Cooper Union in 2017. This is her MFA graduation
