Annual Exhibition 2020
This year the Annual Exhibition will be an unusual one. For the large part of the spring semester, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the students has not been able to access their studios or workshops. Therefore the exhibition this year will be a digital presentation. Some of the students will show documentations of artworks indented for physical spaces, other has chosen to create their works with the direct aim to be experienced online. Everyone has shown great commitment and ingenuity in handling this unexpected and difficult situation.
Strategies and ideas for the webpage has been worked out together with some dedicated students. Many of the students have initiated collaboration projects. One of these are 00:00:52:00, where as many as 8 students creates one film each, that is precisely 52 seconds long. In the Annual Exhibition 2020 you can also see documentations from graduation shows and a documentation of one of the Academy courses, ”An Undeniable Hit”, held by Michael Portnoy.

A hybrid product of thoughts, art and music made during and influenced by this strange pandemic time. The work reflects on eroticism, dreams and desires, optimism and cynicism. A hybrid state of being, the gaze of the other as well as notions of feminine archetypes, animals, angels and apocalypse in a screen centered world of image reproduction, objectification and idolatry. Experience of identity, metamorphoses and escape.. in a sincere, sinister Disney de- generation fairytale.
Initiated by making soundtracks to performance work AfterpartyAngel is an attempted spell, a melancholic manifestation on human centeredness and patriarchy. Desire for the primitive and fantastic.
Afterparty Angel are Elísabet Birta Sveinsdóttir and Heimir Gestur Valdimarsson.
