Exchange

students in metal workshop

Malmö Art Academy has a strong international profile. Exchanges and collaborations between students and teaching staff from other academies around the world are an important part of the art academy’s activities.

Malmö Art Academy has exchanges with art academies in several countries. You can study abroad for a period during your programme as a means to gain new experiences and perspectives. Every semester, students from Malmö Art Academy are away on exchanges and the academy also receives exchange students from all over the world. This contributes to many interesting encounters in daily activities. An exchange agreement guarantees that tuition does not involve a fee and entitles exchange students to student finance. The studies can be credited in a degree, provided that the academy has approved the exchange. The academy has agreements with partners in the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, Europe, the USA and Asia. Many of our exchange partners are involved in the Erasmus+ network or KUNO. This means that you can apply for grants to finance your stay abroad.

Outgoing
Normally, exchanges are not granted in the first or third years of the Bachelor of Fine Arts programme (BFA1 and BFA3) or year two of the Master of Fine Arts programme (MFA2).

Thus, the best period for an exchange is BFA 2 or MFA 1. It is important that you have talked to a member of the academy’s teaching staff and gained support for your exchange before you apply. The most common exchange period is one semester, but one year may also be possible.

Our various partner universities have different application deadlines and different semester periods, so it is best if you first know which institution you would like to apply to and then contact Lotta for more information.

Further down you will find a list of our partner universities.

You must be prepared that your studio will be needed for an incoming exchange student during the full semester of your exchange, even though the host institution’s semester periods may vary from ours.

All students who travel on the basis of an exchange agreement are insured through the Swedish Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency’s (Kammarkollegiet) group insurance for outgoing exchange students, Student OUT. Read more on the Kammarkollegiet website https://www.kammarkollegiet.se/engelska/start/all-services/insurance-for-foreign-visitors/student-insurance/insurance-during-education-abroad

The insurance is valid from two weeks before to two weeks after the period of studies and only for the country of study and direct travel to where you are to study. If you travel on an exchange to an EU country you should obtain the European Health Insurance Card via the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan).
