Colour is a universal phenomenon that we each have our own understanding of. It can be described as electromagnetic waves that bounce between reflective surfaces, hit our retinas and are translated into visual information. But how does that explain the colours we see when we close our eyes? Colour can be both something physical and psychological. A material substance with abstract qualities. The conflicting concepts are what makes it so intriguing.
My interest in colour led me to the source, and 3 ½ years ago I started to make my own paint from scratch. I collect raw material outside and transform them to pigments and paints in my studio. This was common practice for artists before industrialisation. Reusing the same methods today opens up to new possibilities. It collapses the boundaries between studio and public space, and it welcomes chance.
Colour Research (2021) is an installation where colour exists in different stages: as paintings, as pigments, and as methods. Welcome!
Due to the pandemic you have to book a time slot to visit the exhibition.
