SVIÐ 14/2

svid
Utställning
A contemporary dance piece by students from Malmö Art Academy and Malmö Theatre Academy overseen by Michael Portnoy. NOTE: It's a seated performance.

The water is dripping... I was happy once in the world... but now the Þrælar is constantly watched by The One Who Is Many.

Svið (sheep head, stage, sores) is a 12th century saga. During the time that Svið was written, the Icelanders faced climate changes not unsimilar to ours and so the saga is not just a cautionary tale, but also a toolbox for future generations.

The performance was prepared by first burning off the hair, then cleaning the head under running cold water while paying special attention to the eyes and ears.

The question remains: How do you unlearn your skin?

The project is realized in collaboration with a team of anthropologists led by Dr. Göran Sjöholm, Uppsala University, who recently discovered the 12th century saga carved into the skull of a sheep.
